In a long-term relationship, your partner's habits are bound to rub off on you-whether you get the positive or negative ones, though, is more of a toss up. Luckily for Leighton Meester, her husband Adam Brody's healthy lifestyle is what she caught on to.

The former Gossip Girl actress is the April cover star of Shape, and told the magazine all about the workout routine she picked up from Brody. “Last year, I took up personal training,” she said. “My husband also taught me how to surf, and in the last year, I got really into it.”

Meester continued: “For the last six months, surfing has pretty much been my main form of exercise. I have found that when I don't have a physical result in mind when I'm exercising-it's not just about getting sore or getting abs or burning fat-I feel much more confident. I'm working on a skill, and that is so fulfilling to me. Plus, being in the ocean is such a spiritual experience that you forget you're getting a real workout."

Meester stays busy not only with surfing, but she also stars as Angie D'Amato in ABC's new series Single Parents. On top of that, she is a mom in real life to Arlo, her daughter with Brody.

Her busy life might not leave a lot of time for romance, but she and Brody will get to spend a lot of time together soon. The O.C. actor will guest star on Single Parents as Meester's ex. “The last episode is going to have somebody that I know really well," Meester told Entertainment Tonight last month. “He is going to be on the show, and it was kind of like, maybe best-case scenario, maybe someday he could be on the show. And then now he's gonna be on the show! His name is Adam Brody!"

Brody and Meester were married in a supersecret ceremony in 2014 after getting engaged just 10 months prior. They had their daughter a year later, and while most new parents would be trying to figure out how to manage their new lives, Meester is throwing balance out the window.

"I just don't believe in balance,” she told Shape. “I think that's not possible if you're a working mother-and with single mothers, I can not even imagine that. I love playing Angie because we discuss how hard the struggle is to feel like you are enough. Some days my husband makes dinner, and some days I do. Other days, I'm too tired, and I eat a bowl of cereal for dinner. It's just the thing we do to make it work."
