When you're a royal, there's an endless list of etiquette and traditions you have to follow, especially when it comes to matters of your title. Still, that didn't stop Princess Eugenie from taking her husband Jack Brooksbank's last name. But the modern royal found a smart and sweet way to incorporate her husband's name into hers without sacrificing her title.
Rather than being called Princess Eugenie Brooksbank, the Court Circular revealed at a Buckingham Palace garden party on Wednesday that the 29-year-old royal will now be referred to as “Princess Eugenie, Mrs. Jack Brooksbank.” This is a change from a March visit to the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, in which her name was announced as “Princess Eugenie of York." While her title may have lengthened, the important part is that she hasn't sacrificed the "Princes Eugenie" part of her title.
She's been enjoying married life since tying the knot during a stunning ceremony at Windsor Castle last October. She and Brooksbank wed after years of dating; they met in 2010 and got engaged during a trip to Nicaragua in 2018. Recently, they celebrated the one-year anniversary of Brooksbank popping the question.
Ever since she got hitched, the royal has shown how much she's embraced adding her husband's name to her own. The day after the wedding, she stepped out wearing a pink silk jacket designed by Sam Dougal of the brand Gainsbourg. The back of it featured delicate embroidery that read "Mrs. Brooksbank." In an Instagram post, Dougal revealed a tender detail: The letters were written in Princess Eugenie's very own handwriting.
Although these official titles can get complex, Princess Eugenie's husband isn't getting any changes or official titles added to his name. He'll keep being known as Jack Brooksbank-the lucky guy who got to marry Princess Eugenie!
